Peppermint Oreo Balls made with mint Oreo cookies and cream cheese, these couldn’t be simpler. Roll them in crushed peppermint for a holiday treat.
My college student brought home her college newspaper for December and on the back page was a recipe for holiday treats to make in your dorm room to help with stress during exams. I know how small their rooms are and the limited cooking equipment most college students have, and while this sounded like a great idea, I was skeptical that these could be made in a dorm room.
We tested them out in my fully equipped kitchen. This recipe required several bowls, a food processor, microwave, a ziplock bag, a hammer, some counter space, and a large freezer. Making the balls is pretty simple in a kitchen, I just can’t see making these in a dorm room! Once made, you have to freeze them, then dip them in chocolate and roll in crushed candy canes. Again, not too difficult in a kitchen, impossible in a dorm room. I was informed that crushing the candy canes did not require a hammer, that a textbook would work just as well. So other than a hammer, my daughter only had a bowl and a plastic spoon. Makes me question the editorial staff for the paper.
Despite not being able to make them in a dorm room, these were fun to make especially if you aren’t worried about how they look. We had crushed candy canes all over the floor after crushing them with “Thor’s” hammer, but they turned out cute and yummy.
So college students, don’t try these in your dorm, but make them with friends, and enjoy the holiday spirit.Print
