The 80’s Called, They Want Their Race Back

I have not been officially training for any races this summer and instead have been doing some hill and speed work.  This 5K race came up and my firm was sponsoring a group to run in it.  It was not a big or fancy race, all the proceeds went to the United Way of Forsyth County.  We had a good turn out and the weather went from very foggy to a beautiful sunny autumn day.  The route was through Tanglewood Park with gently rolling hills.  There wasn’t a chip or a very organized finish line.  Still, everyone was dressed up with something from the 80’s, some more than others.  My favorite was someone dressed as a Rubik Cube.  I was hoping to finish in 27:00.  I did a PR and finished at 26:14 and won not only my age group but I was faster than the winner of the younger age group.  I felt great and it was the first time I have ever won in my age group.  I think we forget how much fun these little charity races can be.  I am searching for one in November so let me know if you here of one.
