Perfectly crisp bacon caramelized with brown sugar is both sweet and salty. An all around favorite whether serving for breakfast with waffles or pancakes or as a snack while watching your favorite team. Spice it up with some red pepper flakes and bake it in the oven, it's a Southern classic!
Preheat oven to 375º. Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray a cooking rack with cooking spray.
Combine brown sugar and red pepper flakes in a small bowl. Place in a pie pan or a plate.
Press the bacon in the brown sugar mixture, pressing it to adhere to both sides of the bacon. Place on the wire rack. Sprinkle any left over brown sugar mixture over the bacon.
Bake for 30-40 minutes depending on the thickness of the bacon. It should be crisp but not burned.
Let the bacon cool completely before removing.
Barbara's Notes + Tips
Let the bacon cool for at least 15 minutes before removing from the pan.
For perfectly caramelized bacon, keep an eye on the bacon in the last few minutes of cooking. Some ovens are hotter than others, and the last thing you want is a tray full of burnt, blackened bacon.
Lining your pan with parchment paper or heavy-duty foil will save time in clean up and protect your baking sheet.
