    The Ocean Room – Kiawah

    The Ocean Room – Kiawah

After running the Kiawah ½ marathon last weekend we treated ourselves to The Ocean View restaurant which bills itself as “The Premier Steakhouse of Kiawah”. I know we were pretty hungry but we still agreed that this may have been the best steak we’ve had. My girlfriend and I split the ribeye which was still more than I could eat. The flavors were fantastic and it was cooked perfectly.

We started our experience by entering through beautiful iron gates. I went back the next morning to try to get a photo of the gates when they were closed but they were having a bridal event and were open. If you are just wandering around the hotel, take a look at the closed gate, it’s a work of art.The Ocean room at the Sanctuary

Once through the gates, you are in the Sushi Lounge. Now I am not a sushi fan, but others in our group were and they gave this a thumbs up. After appetizers and drinks in the lounge we made our way into the restaurant. I always think that a restaurants’ bread tells a lot about what you can expect from your meal. If you’re going to serve mediocre bread, it’s not a good sign. Well no worries here, the bread was fresh, and must have been made on site. We had three different types in the bread basket, all of which promised good things to come.

Trust me when I tell you to order the steak. They have other things on the menu but this place is known for it’s steak, so go with their speciality.

While the food was wonderful, the highlight of our dining experience was the “purse stool”. We saw these in Italy this summer and I thought it was just an Italian thing. When the waiter pulled up two purse stools for our bags, we felt pretty special. What a great touch to compliment our perfect post-race dinner.Purse stool at The Ocean Room
