    Running in Pinehurst

    Running in Pinehurst

One of my favorite places to run is in Pinehurst/Southern Pines. Most of the time my runs are on paved running trails or the road, so it is such a nice change to run where the soil is sandy. All off road running will be on hard packed sandy ground. If you haven’t run on this before, make sure you pack your running shoes along with your golf spikes next time you visit this area. If you are staying at the resort, a wonderful trail to take is the Pinehurst Greenway. It is a pretty flat route which goes out Linden road and back. The total route is 5 miles but you can make it longer by meandering around the village, just don’t get lost. Pinehurst wasn’t built on a grid so it is easy to loose your way. I am a bit directionally challenged and the first time I tried to find this trail, I got lost for a block or two. Here are some easy directions to get you from the front of the resort to the trail on Linden. Take a right on Ritter road and then a left on Shaw. Stay on the path on Shaw until you get to Linden road and then turn left. Keep going until your trail stops and then turn around. It is a very safe area and you can see some beautiful homes along the way. You don’t need to worry about dogs, but watch out for deer if you are running early, I had three cross my path one morning, scared me to death.
