Elliotts on Linden – Pinehurst, NC

With the US Open only four months away, Pinehurst is getting ready and I thought I should add some posts about restaurants in the area for all of those visiting. We have a few places that we go back to over and over again.  Every once in a while we’ll  try one not on our list, but generally our list stays the same.  Elliotts on Linden has been on our list for years and has never disappointed.  The waitress and hostess staff change occasionally and they have specials, but there are a few things that never change.  The all time best thing to order is never on the menu but is always a special.  For me, it is what they are known for. We have tried other things several times, but always come back to Salmon on a Cedar Plank.

servings of salmon on a cedar plankI love salmon and have eaten it in many places across the globe and I don’t think anyone can top their preparation.  First of all the salmon is thick and cooked perfectly, every single time, that in itself is amazing.  The sauce is slightly sweet, spicy and savory with golden raisins on top.  They bring it to your table on the cedar plank and slide it on to your plate of potatoes and vegetables for a beautiful presentation.  We went with friends this weekend and all four of us ordered this.

I really like going to this restaurant with people who don’t like fish so that I can sample their entrees which have all been great.  I have yet to sample the rabbit pie.  They are known for using local farms for all of their food and the freshness comes through.  They have sides you can share which are not huge but plenty for four people or more depending on whether you get an appetizer.  My favorite is their Mac & Cheese.

The salads use local cheese and were so fresh even in February.  We all sampled different appetizers and the scallops were fantastic.

So if coming for the US Open or just for a weekend, call and get a reservation.  It is actually in Pinehurst, not too far from the resort, but not close enough to walk.
