Three cheeses, tender spaghetti, and leftover ham—all baked into the easiest comfort food you didn’t know you needed. After boiling the noodles, it takes just 30 minutes in the oven to become a golden brown masterpiece.

Try a Noodle Casserole with Leftover Ham

There are nights when I open the fridge, stare at a stack of containers, and silently beg something to inspire me. This casserole was one of those quiet weeknight wins. Leftover ham from the slowcooker? Check. Random bits of cheese? Check. Spaghetti? Always. And just like that—dinner was done.

I wish I could say I invented it, but truthfully, I found this gem in an old preschool cookbook from my daughter’s class. It had my handwriting next to it, “she loved this!”, and yet I have zero memory of ever making it. Classic mom move. But wow, I’m glad I found it again.

If you’re staring down leftover ham from Easter or the holidays and just can’t bring yourself to make one more sandwich, this is the recipe for you. It’s cheesy, it’s hearty, and best of all, it’s flexible. No fussy sauces, no roux, just noodles, butter, ham, and cheese coming together in a way that feels way fancier than it actually is.

Want something that feeds a crowd, makes great leftovers, and feels like a warm hug in a baking dish? This is it.

Why You’ll Be Making This on Repeat

    It’s stupid easy.
Boil pasta, stir in butter, toss in cheese and ham, bake. It’s weeknight magic.

    Use what you’ve got.
Leftover ham? Perfect. Random cheese drawer finds? Toss ’em in. It’s built for improvisation.

    No sauce, no stress.
This isn’t a thick creamy casserole. Think more buttery, melty, cheesy pasta with crispy golden edges. If you do want something saucy, try this mac and cheese with kielbasa that’s heavy on the comfort.

    Freezer-friendly.
Make it now, stash it for later. Or double the batch and give one to a friend who needs a break. We’ve all been there.

Ingredients For Ham and Cheese Spaghetti

Here’s what you’ll absolutely want on hand before you start. The full ingredient list and instructions are down in the recipe card.

The ingredients for a ham and cheese casserole.
    Get your ingredients together.

Noodles – I used spaghetti noodles for this recipe, you could also use bucatini.

Cooked Ham – Grab those leftovers! If you don’t have leftover ham, use a pre-cooked ham steak or have the deli cut some.

Cheese – This is where you can really shine. You can use Swiss cheese, white cheddar cheese, pepper jack, or substitute any other cheese mixture you have in the fridge.

How to Make a No-Fuss Ham and Cheese Casserole

    Step One: Cook Pasta

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook until al dente, per package directions. Drain and return to the pot.

    Step Two: Add Flavor

A bowl of spaghetti and butter.
    Melt butter in pasta.
    A bowl of shredded cheese.
    Combine the cheeses.

Add butter, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to the pot of spaghetti and mix until the butter has melted and everything is evenly coated.

Step Three: Stir in the good stuff

Ham, cheese and pasta in a bowl.
    Combine ingredients.

    Place in a casserole dish.
Ham and cheese casserole covered with cheese before it has baked.
    Cover with cheese.

    Step Four: Bake

Bake for 30 minutes until the cheese has melted.

Pair it with something fresh like this broccoli salad with cranberries or a green bean and potato salad. It needs a little brightness on the side.

    Storing and Reheating

    • Fridge: Let it cool, then pop it into an airtight container. It’ll keep for about 3 days.
    • Freezer: Wrap it up well with foil, then store it whole or in portions. Great for emergency dinners or when you’ve had one of those days.

This casserole might not win any fancy awards, but I swear, it’ll win over anyone you serve it to. It’s the kind of thing that shows up quietly and ends up being everyone’s favorite. Keep this in your back pocket—it’s a good one.

Okay, okay, I’m a Boomer and I had forgotten all about the Ham & Cheese Casserole with Noodles. When I saw this recipe, the memories of being a child and smelling this dish as it bakes came flooding in. It’s a cheesy, hammy, tasty delight and now that I have the recipe again, it’s now on my menu once a week. Thanks, Barbara!

I’m so glad you found it. It’s so simple and great when you have left over ham.
