    Wolcott’s – Southern Pines, NC

    Wolcott’s – Southern Pines, NC

My husband and I had a date night and went to one of our favorite restaurants in Southern Pines.  I had been experimenting with muffins all day (I’ll share in another post) and wanted to try something light but most of their entrée’s were meat and I wasn’t in the mood for salmon.  Matt was our waiter and I asked if they had a vegetarian dish.  He went back to the chef and said they could alter any of the dishes on the menu or if I was game, they would surprise me.  Well, I like all vegetables except for brusell sprouts, so I gave it a try.  I started with their grilled romaine salad.  It looked so good, I forgot to take a picture.  It was grilled perfectly and had some banana peppers and prosciutto on top. The ceasar dressing was just perfect.  Prior to the salad they served a yeast roll/bread.  It is large, and had a great consistency.  I did remember to capture a picture of my lovely vegetarian dish before I lit into it.  I had three different things, a potato medley with I think some turnips or something similar.  In the middle were mushrooms with gnocchi, which were my favorites, and then the third item was yellow squash with some roasted peppers.  They were all fantastic.  I doubt you would get the same thing if you went back, but you should know that this chef is willing to cook off the menu.  It will be hard for me to try their great meat entrée’s when we return knowing that a vegetarian option is going to be available.  We had a great experience at Wolcots and will definitely be returning.  If you are visiting in the area, give it a try.  The atmosphere is relaxing, bistro like.
