    Running in Southern Pines

    Running in Southern Pines

If you are coming to the Pines for the Open, I wanted to share my favorite running spot with you. I have already posted about a great 5 mile trail leaving from the entrance of the Pinehurst Resort.  For this one you may have to drive depending on where you are staying. But nothing is very far away.

Southern Pines/Pinehurst has a great series of running/walking trails at the reservoir.  It’s called the Reservoir Park Greenway.  You can access it from several neighborhoods or go to the main entrance. If you happen to be staying at Talamore, you can easily walk.  What is so nice about it is that the trails are so well maintained that you could take a stroller on them. You have the advantage of the packed sand which is great for your knees, and of course it’s beautiful and shady.

Another great feature is that by starting at the reservoir you can easily get a long run in without making loops. The reservoir itself is about 2 miles around.  However if you follow the signs to Nick’s Creek Greenway you can cross Airport road and get in several miles.  It’s pretty well marked so you won’t get lost.  At times you are far from the road but it’s a safe area and there are always bikers and runners around on the weekends.  So if you are in town for the Open, or just visiting the area, check out our running/walking trails.

No, I haven’t. Can you tell me more about it?
