Don’t miss out on some of the best scones around while visiting Pinehurst/Southern Pines.  You’ll find perfect scones from PineScones at several locations, convenient to wherever your travels take you in this region.

When in Pinehurst, hopefully you’ll take some time to relax and who doesn’t love a delicious scone to go with your tea or coffee for breakfast or afternoon tea.  I find that some purchased scones can be too sweet.  I want a little sweetness but nothing overpowering. I discovered PineScones at the Farmers Market in Southern Pines which is held on Saturday mornings from 8 to 12 on the corner of New York and Broad Streets. Along with wonderful fruit and veggies, the owner of PineScones Cafe always has a booth with several varieties of scones. How clever is that name!

I’ve recently joined a group of runners and our starting point is the Post Office right across the street from the Farmers Market, so it’s super convenient to stop by after my run and reward myself with a scone.

She does a great job with the texture of the scone itself, not too dry or crumbly and she always has interesting additions.  Natalies’ favorite is chocolate chip and salted caramel toffee.  You can also find strawberry and blueberry along with pineapple and macadamia or cranberry almond. Some weeks she has sugar free and she’ll generally have a savory variety with spinach or bacon. They’re also a perfect size, not so large that you can’t eat dinner afterwards.

The actual shop is located a little off the beaten path, but not far from the Pinehurst Resort.  It’s on Linden Road in the same building as Elliotts. The problem for me is that when I go to Elliotts for dinner the shop is closed. But not to worry, along with the Farmers Market, you can find them at several shops in Southern Pines and Pinehurst. In Pinehurst you can find them at The Roast Office and The Corner Store.  In Southern Pines, if you miss the Farmers Market, they sell them at Swank Coffee Shoppe and The Pony Express.  Clearly I’m not the only one who has discovered how wonderful these scones are. Of course if you go to the PineScone Cafe, there are more options including just plain scones with butter and jam and of course they have hot beverages to go with them.

So while scones are easy to make at home, and I love my Strawberry and Blueberry versions, these come pretty close.  If you’re in the area, give them a try.
