A full house in the South was usually announced by what was cooking, not by how many cars were outside. Certain dishes signaled that family, neighbors, and friends were all on the way. The table filled up fast, and so did the room with warmth and conversation. These recipes weren’t just meals, they were an invitation to stay awhile. Every bite carried the feeling that no one was leaving hungry.
